LASER HAIR REMOVAL FAQ
Do you require a consult?
We do not! Typically we chat just before the service; however, whichever you feel the most comfortable.
How many treatments will it take?
Hair follicles have growth cycles, and the follicle must be in the anagen phase of its growth cycle to kill it. Not all follicles will be in the same phase of the growth cycle simultaneously, so multiple treatments are required; this varies depending on the person's skin, hair type, and hormones. Results are seen after the first treatment, but to seek permanent hair reduction, it will be following 6 to 10 treatments and expect 8-12 treatments in the more hormonal areas. Once the treatments are done, we recommend maintenance touch-ups once or twice a year as needed.
How often do I need to come in for treatment?
Consistency is critical with laser hair removal. Once you decide to start your hair-free journey, you will need to come back for a treatment every 4-8 weeks depending on the body part, until the hairs are significantly reduced, or you are no longer shaving anymore.
How should I prep for treatments?
Please shave all areas you would like treated by the laser the day prior/morning of your appointment. The hair needs to be in the follicle for the laser to treat the hair. (Please do not wax or tweeze throughout the laser process)
If you are doing a treatment on your face, you will need to avoid retinol, Retin-A, or topical creams 1-2 weeks pre/post-treatment.
Avoid Botox or dermal fillers in the area to be treated 14 days pre-treatment and post- treatment. See guide.
Avoid spray tans 14 days prior.
Avoid waxing, plucking, threading or bleaching 4 weeks prior.
Medications: Accutane has to be out of your system completely before starting laser hair removal treatments. Spironolactone or any other acne medications should also be avoided for 7 days before treatments. Antibiotics may increase photosensitivity. If you begin taking an antibiotic, you will need to be off the medication for 7 days before laser treatment. Any other medication that increases photosensitivity should also be avoided 7 days prior to the treatment.
Can I come in for my session if I have my period?
We don’t mind if you don’t mind. You will be a bit more sensitive during this time so based on your pain tolerance, this is entirely a personal preference.
Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?
The treatment using the Splendor X laser is virtually painless. We have been told it feels similar to a cool stone massage with slight tugging on the hairs.
Will the hair be gone forever?
Laser hair removal's true definition is permanent hair reduction. Once you have completed your treatments, you may go months to years without shaving but may need a touch-up once or twice a year.
How long should I plan for recovery after my laser treatment?
For most of our clients, there is no downtime after treatment, and for the very few, there is a slight redness that goes away in about 15-30 mins after the treatment.
You can come to get your treatment during your lunch break and return to work right after!
Am I a good candidate?
Clients with red, grey or blonde hair should consult with a LASR LAIR technician before receiving treatments, as the laser is less effective on lighter hair colors. Hair removal works best on individuals with light complexions and dark hair. If your hair color is darker than the skin color, you are a candidate for LHR. If you are unsure if laser hair removal is a good option for you, we do offer consultations.
Can I be treated if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?
Unfortunately no. Due to the lack of studies evaluating the safety of LHR on pregnant women and due to lack of information, The LASR Lair does not treat women who are pregnant.
Is there an age requirement?
Yes. Clients have to be at least 13 years old at the time of treatment, with parent's permission and attendance.
TATTOO REMOVAL FAQ
Is a consultation required?
Yes. Consultations are required for all tattoo removal treatments.
How many sessions are needed?
The answer to this is tricky as it depends on your body’s ability to eliminate ink from the skin. For most clients, the treatments will take longer than a year for complete removal.
How often are the treatments?
As the skin has to heal in between sessions, treatments will occur every 6-8 weeks. Treatments performed in closer intervals can cause permanent damage to the skin.
What factors contribute to how quickly a tattoo is removed?
Skin color, tattoo layering (cover up), location of the body (proximity to the heart), ink colors, amount of ink, scarring, client health
Is there anything I can do to speed up the process?
Exercise, ample water intake, and massage on the treated area will help.
Does it hurt?
Yes, tattoo removal hurts. Numbing creams will help, but there is definitely pain associated with the process. While our device is designed to reduce the discomfort and recovery time associated with the laser tattoo removal process, it is important to note this treatment is not pain free.
Is scarring possible?
If the tattoo contains a scar or keloids, yes, the scar will remain. A risk of scarring may happen if the client fails to follow our aftercare instructions. Blisters, scabbing, and itchiness are common side effects that are important in the removal healing process. Picking scabs or not properly caring for blisters may result in scarring.
Side effects?
Redness, swelling, itchiness, blistering, scabs, bruising, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, or tenderness may occur. Most side effects are temporary and will go away within 48 hours, but blisters may last up to a week.
How does it work?
Tattoo removal works by emitting short pulses of light into the tattoo. With state-of-the-art technology, the light is absorbed by the ink particles in the skin making the particles shatter into tiny fragments.
Pre-treatment?
It is extremely important to stay out of the sun for the entire duration of your sessions. KT tape or other skin tape may be used to cover the tattoo, but if sun exposure occurs, treatments will be paused.
Shaving, waxing, and exfoliation should be avoided for 24 hours before the appointment.
Post-treatment?
Sun exposure must be avoided and exercise should be put on hold for 48 hours as we want to avoid additional heat into the treated areas. Hot tubs, saunas, long baths, high / hot water pressure, and shaving should also be avoided for 48 hours or until any blisters subside.
Drink water! Decrease alcohol consumption, don’t smoke, exercise to increase blood flow.
What device do you use for tattoo removal?
Our brand new Discovery Pico combines high power, multiple wavelengths, and versatile treatment modes to remove tough-to-treat tattoo colors effectively. The device uses short pulses to break down deep pigments with minimal risk of scarring or discoloration.
With its Pico-Boost technology, the Discovery PICO combines energy, peak power, and flexibility into a single machine. The innovation consists of maximum levels of power thanks to ultrashort pulses that are twice as powerful as any other Picosecond laser. This will improve your overall outcome by increasing efficacy on tattoo inks that are difficult to treat.
Our laser is adjustable based on the skin type, depth and pigment of the skin.
